Jason Choy identified this gap in the security market and teamed up with IT-specialist James Telfer in 2003 to form the concept behind Welcome Gate. Their aim was to provide totally impartial advice and practical solutions to meet security needs for organisations in any industry and sector.

 

In 2005, Welcome Gate was launched – an organisation with a fresh and dynamic approach to security.

 

As most security companies are tied into particular brands and suppliers, businesses are typically unable to adequately compare product ranges.

 

This is where Welcome Gate is different.

 

Uniquely, our independent starting point means we’re not tied to any manufacturers. This gives us the ability to provide totally impartial guidance on the most appropriate security systems for clients, in industries ranging from financial institutions and co-working spaces to diplomatic missions and defence facilities.

Jason started his career as a facilities manager, looking after a range of commercial, defence and sports stadia, both in Australia and the UK. It was these opportunities that gave him first-hand experience of what it was like to be a “buyer” of security systems. 

 

With so many different technologies to choose from, Jason quickly realised that he needed a company that could provide him with real advice on selecting the right system. In fact, it was because they didn’t exist, he decided to set one up, with the purpose of helping his fellow facilities colleagues. 

 

Giving back to an industry that provided him with so much opportunity, Jason continues to encourage Young FMs to network and share ideas. Jason’s other passion is to help support and promote young entrepreneurs, which even led him to representing the UK at the G8 Young Business Summit in Italy. 

 

Having grown Welcome Gate from a single client to a truly global footprint, Jason remains fascinated by how businesses work and constantly curious to learn about new security technologies and how they can solve real business problems. 

 

It is this open-minded approach that has led Welcome Gate to be on the forefront of cloud and mobile based systems, enabling our clients to integrate easily with their HR, IT, CRM and ERP systems.  

 

As Welcome Gate continues to expand internationally, Jason’s role is to ensure we are focussed on serving our clients in accordance with our “Core Values”. Finding interesting clients with unique business challenges and figuring out how to solve them as a Team is what really drives us – each doing our little part to make a difference.  

 

A great day for Jason would probably involve sharing ideas about business over a game of table tennis.

James Telfer

After 8 years in various IT roles, including a major platform migration for one of the UK’s largest security companies, James co-founded Welcome Gate with Jason Choy to be a security systems company with a fresh approach to client relationships.

Living on four different continents during childhood, and the experience of growing up among different cultures, perspectives and attitudes has given James a very open minded approach to challenges. This approach, along with the multinational makeup of the core team, has directly influenced Welcome Gate’s own internal culture of inclusion, empathy and understanding.

Now with well over a decade of experience in the security industry and a deep interest in all things technological, James answers the What and How questions clients raise as they seek their optimum solution. The ability to view challenges from the client’s point of view is invaluable to explaining why a solution is the best choice for them.

Although he is currently focused more often on complex system designs and integrations, he still enjoys getting hands-on with client systems to keep those basic skills up to date.

Matt Robson

Matt Robson

Head of Sales & Marketing

Matt is an experienced Sales professional driven by his passion, supporting people through their security challenges. He takes great pride in giving the best advice possible. Working in the Security industry for over 25 years, he has gained experience via roles such as Security Consultant to National Account Manager and now Head of Sales & Marketing. This experience has seen him working with companies across many market sectors. Matt accepts the fact that learning is a lifelong process, keeping abreast of changes in technology & client requirements. His goal is to achieve those of his clients. 

 

In addition to his primary functions, Matt has been developing a proven process for clients. This provides an end-to-end solution from initial conversation through to long term service & support. This led Matt into developing a Sales playbook which he continuously develops to this day. Something he is very proud of and hopes to one day release it into the world as a tool to assist others. 

 

His love of tech started at an early age; programming a Sinclair ZX81, one of the early home computers. From then, to today’s home automation & Internet of Things, he has developed a keen desire to understand the electronic security world. This really excites him to better serve his clients and see what is possible. Working with the tech team here at Welcome Gate, alongside the company’s tech partners, has given him a valuable opportunity to work with and explore new & exciting security solutions.  

 

As well as owning the company sales target & developing marketing strategy Matt enjoys supporting & coaching his team. His mission is to see them succeed. Matt is always striving for excellence when it comes to exceptional customer service. He prides himself on a personal, honest, & responsive approach to sales. 

 

Outside of Welcome Gate, Matt has spent time as a photographer. And once, Dj’d to over two thousand people.

Bhavna V. Parmar

Head of Finance

Bhavna V. Parmar

Head of Finance

As a young child growing up in India, Bhavna was surrounded by experiences that encouraged an entrepreneurial outlook. Upon completion of business studies, Bhavna entered her first role in the finance profession and went on to complete the ACCA professional qualification which has driven her career progression. She has over 20 years of experience spanning finance within financial services, commercial & retail as well as travel industry. Joining Welcome Gate as Financial Controller in 2016, she was appointed Head of Finance in 2017.

 

As Head of Finance, Bhavna provides strategic leadership of the Welcome Gate business and finance functions, as well as for the management of its financial and capital resources. She works highly collaboratively across all functions to support Welcome Gate’s vision, their proven processes and core values through entrepreneurship.

 

Outside work she leads a busy and active life, as well as managing her private property portfolio. She also has a keen interest in the world of digital currency, it’s exciting potential and what she believes is the future. In her spare time, she travels to new places and takes great pleasure in learning about the local art and culture.

Upon completing his BEng Degree in Engineering, followed by a successful 10-year career with Ford Motor Company, James was drawn to travelling and the potential to work internationally. He set off for Australia in 2003 and fulfilled several senior leadership positions across a diverse range of industries in his 13 years overseas.

 

Whilst in Australia, James was fortunate to participate in the Kokoda Challenge, a gruelling 96km course and one that has earnt its title of Australia’s toughest team endurance event. He is proud of this achievement, the charities it supports and the fallen WWII heroes it remembers. He has used the spirit of Kokoda and values it represents throughout his professional career.

 

Since returning to the UK, and joining Welcome Gate in 2020 as the Head of Operations, he is enjoying the challenges that the security industry brings. 

 

James is passionate about leadership and continually reflects on his performance and how he can develop high performing Operational teams to meet the values and behaviours of the company.

 

His current mission is to improve communication, roles and accountability and create smoother processes that result in better maintenance, servicing, and project delivery at Welcome Gate. James believes it is the details that matter and he lives by the moto “It’s our people that make the difference”.

 

Outside of work James enjoys learning new skills and has completed a number of qualifications in his own time to become a fully qualified Electrician. This has enabled James to create a Smart Home and offer friends a fully free tradesman service.

Our consultants personally take the time to find out what you want and need, and provide practical, unbiased advice. The operations team are just as dedicated to delivering your security on time and on budget. We will be honest with you: if all you need is a padlock and a big dog, we’ll tell you! We’ll even introduce you to someone who provides that service.

* – The small print: Welcome Gate will not remove any cables installed. Only hardware & software will be removed. Welcome Gate engineers will require access to all areas during normal working hours to complete any removal. The client must allow Welcome Gate a resolution period of three months to rectify any issues, including full access to all equipment following activation of the Welcome Gate Guarantee. All decorating and making good is to be carried out by the client. Should any specific/particular requirements for civil or builders works, cutting away, the removal and/or reinstatement of ceiling tiles, flooring, carpets, stock, furniture, fixings and fittings arise, these are the responsibility of the client.
